Tragedy with 11 victims and dozens injured, the mayor warns of a deepening of the balance: Many in critical condition!

A tragedy occurred the other day in Vancouver, where a vehicle drove into the crowd at a festival.

In a press conference attended by many media outlets, Mayor Ken Sim spoke about the tragedy, calling it “the darkest day” for Vancouver and the Filipino community. He expressed deep solidarity with the families of the victims, saying: “Your family is our family.”

Mayor Sim emphasized that, however, strength has been found through the unbearable pain that has affected the community, and thanked the emergency services for their quick and professional action.

He also announced that he has ordered a "complete reassessment" of security measures during events, including barrier control and traffic management.

"Vancouver remains a safe city," Sim stressed, encouraging residents to continue with their plans.

The Event and Victims
Currently, the data on the tragedy is shocking: 11 people have lost their lives, ranging in age from 5 to 65. Dozens more have also been injured, some of whom are in critical condition, and there are still unidentified individuals among the victims.

Mayor Sim also provided details about the suspect, a 30-year-old man who has been arrested and is in custody. He explained that, at this time, the information does not suggest this was an “act of terrorism.”

“According to the investigation, this individual has a significant history of mental health issues and has had numerous interactions with police regarding mental health issues. Mental health issues appear to be the primary cause here,” Sim said.

He also emphasized that this tragedy should serve as a call for change in the treatment and support of individuals with such problems.

In conclusion, Mayor Sim said that his team is committed to making events and the city safer, but such situations can happen anywhere.
