Tragedy at biscuit factory in Greece, owner arrested

Greek authorities have arrested the owner of the "Violanta" biscuit factory as well as two other company executives, including the safety technician, following the tragic explosion and fire in Trikala, where five employees lost their lives.

According to Greek media, the owner faces charges of manslaughter, explosion, negligent arson, and causing bodily harm.

The serious incident occurred in the early hours of the morning, around 04:00, after a powerful explosion in the basement of the factory's central building, which is located on the Trikala-Kardica national axis. The fire engulfed one wing of the building and caused extensive material damage.

According to preliminary findings, the tragedy was allegedly caused by a gas leak and an explosion in the area where the factory's furnaces were located.
