Large fire at a biscuit factory in Greece / Five workers missing, 6 others sent

A large fire broke out this morning at the well-known VIOLANTA biscuit factory in Trikala.

According to the Fire Department, the fire broke out just before 4:00 a.m. and is burning part of the factory.

According to information, there were 11 people there, five of whom have not been identified, while the other 6 were taken to the hospital for first aid. A firefighter was also taken to the hospital. According to information, all are in good health.

The fire, according to trikalaola.gr, broke out after a large explosion, while part of the business collapsed.

In fact, the explosion was so powerful that it was heard in the city and a very long distance away in the villages where windows were broken. According to a worker at the scene of the fire, there were no LPG tanks.

Due to the fire, the police authorities have closed the Karditsi road, while vehicle traffic is being diverted from the village of Agia Kyriaki, in order to facilitate the work of the rescue teams and ensure the safety of citizens and workers. 40 firefighters with 15 vehicles are operating at the scene, while EMAK is also on the scene. EMAK from Lamia has also been sent to the scene, while the Directorate for Combating Arson Crimes (DAEE) has also been ordered to go there.
