Miss England becomes the first contestant without makeup in the pageant's

A 20-year-old politics student from Battersea in London has reached the final of Miss England, becoming the first contestant without make-up to take part in the beauty pageant in its 94-year history.

With this act, Melisa Raouf hopes to inspire other women to embrace their natural beauty and eliminate the toxic beauty standards set by social media.

"It means a lot to me as I feel a lot of girls of different ages wear make-up because they feel pressured to do so," said Melisa, who impressed the judges during the semi-finals, independent.co.uk reported.

She will now compete against 40 other women in the Miss England finals in October and plans to go 'bare' again. "I will go to the final with a bare face. I would like to use my Miss England platform to empower natural beauty and eliminate this toxic mentality," she said.

According to the report, Melisa added that "if someone is happy in their own skin, we shouldn't be forced to cover their face with makeup." “Our flaws make us who we are and that's what makes each individual unique. I think people should love and embrace their flaws and imperfections, as we know that true beauty lies within simplicity," she said.

“Unë ende ndihem e sigurt në veten time, me grimin jam e fshehur e gjitha.

Revealing how her act inspired many women, she added: 'I've had so many girls message me saying how I've made them feel more confident. Since mental health is such a big topic, I want to make all girls feel good. I just want to remove all beauty standards. I feel like all girls are beautiful in their own way. I feel like I did it for all the girls.”
