Scientists warn: Around 3 billion people could be exposed to heat worldwide

According to a report by the International Organization for Migration (IOM), up to 2.8 billion people could be exposed to heat waves worldwide by 2090.
The report says the figure for a high-warming scenario is more than double that of a low-warming scenario.
Almost half of those likely to be affected by heat waves, or up to 1.3 billion people, are predicted to live in South Asia.
According to the Internal Displacement Monitoring Center, South Asia has witnessed 59.7 million climate-related displacements in the past decade.
She said the lower and higher warming scenarios represent different future trajectories in greenhouse gas concentrations, leading to a global temperature increase likely below 2 degrees Celsius and 3-4 degrees Celsius by 2100.
