"Tales of Communism", Anita Likmeta success in "Amazon Italy" with her first novel

The novel that is causing a lot of discussion in Italy and that shows how things really went during communism and the civil war in Albania.
From Blerina Moka
"Albania for a very long time has been shown, outside and inside, by people who no longer loved it.
But now the time has come for Anita Likmeta's "Le favole del comunismo" which shows us the other side of L'America.
Where it all started."
This is what the well-known Italian director and intellectual Gianni Amelio says about the Albanian-Italian author with eyes written from Durrës, Anita Likmeta.
"Le favole del comunismo' is her first novel published by Marsilio Editori, and as director Gianni Amelio says, it is an act of deep love, because it shows how things really went.
"And he says it through the eyes of a child , author Anita Likmeta.", director Amelio continues.
Anita Likmeta's novel, which has just been published on pre-order, is quickly climbing the bestseller lists on Amazon Italy.
What is the novel about?
"The tales of Eagle Country tell of donkeys, apple trees, efforts to save a crazy girl with a ponytail, and leaves that, once planted, can cause not only strawberries and onions to grow, but home.
Albania of Eagles is the happiest that exists. Even though there is no running water, even though there are more bunkers than cows, even though Ari's mother left him with his grandparents because she got pregnant too young to work, even though when the Berlin Wall comes down there is no end to immediate dictatorship: in Albania of the Eagles there is only chaos and murder and people with their faces covered. Of course, when the Berlin wall comes down, many people leave for Italy, towards the other side of Albania of the Eagles, which is the happiest of all.
But Ari and the grandparents didn't start, they stay behind. The grandparents feel too old to leave, and then Ari waits for the mother - whisked away on the ship everyone else has taken - to come back to get him.
There are two Aris in this novel: one is a girl who lives in Albania in the 80's and 90's, and is without shoes, because shoes should not wear out and therefore she walks barefoot; the other is a young woman who has as many shoes as she has running water, and today she lives in the center of Milan, in an elegant apartment, spending hours in the shower because biological shampoos do not lather enough. Both are similar, a little because they are beautiful and the beauty is the same, a little because they are the same Ari.
Anita Likmeta, with tenderness and irony, with joy and ruthlessness, writes a monumental novel and shows us a childhood where, sometimes, peeing under yourself was the only way to warm up.
