Exciting confession/ Kiss the skull of Adem Jashari, the doctor: Serbs killed 33

Doctor and the director of the Institute of Forensic Medicine, Arsim Gërxaliu has passed through his hands thousands of bones from mass cemeteries in Kosovo. In an emotional confession for "ABC e Mangjesi", he has shown the work he has done during these 24 years, emphasizing the most difficult moments when he gave the news to his family that the remains of a relative have been found.

"Immediately after the NATO forces, on June 12, 1999, Pristina was liberated and I started following the NATO troops and immediately the next day there was that first contact in the vicinity of Pristina, where I saw corpses on the surface of soil, some half covered. Even simply, people had lost their relatives during the war, and as soon as I returned from the Institute of Forensic Medicine, a flood of the population began. Knowing that there were also many mortal remains that had been collected there or had not managed to take them somewhere to hide them, as we found later in these 23 years. It is a fact that there are over 2,000 exhumation sites that have participated and around 5,000 people have been identified. About 400 times I went to Serbia and I simply brought 1870 bags of mortal remains, somewhere around 750 were only the troops of Drenica and recently we worked in 2014 in Rubnica, where we received 54 troops and 2 years ago, but their number is even further. It means 1617 boxes are missing and it was just a 23-year job, which was not very easy because we were dealing with heavy things. At this time, after 23 years, I can say that the work in the cemetery and their reopening became so easy for me, that the time when they had to give the news to the family members that their relative had been found was difficult for me. Those were the most difficult moments" I can say that working in cemeteries and their reopening became so easy for me, that I was burdened by the time when they had to give the news to the family that their relative had been found. Those were the most difficult moments" I can say that working in cemeteries and their reopening became so easy for me, that I was burdened by the time when they had to give the news to the family that their relative had been found. Those were the most difficult moments", said Gerxhaliu.

Further, the doctor told the emotional moment when he had cleaned the body of Adem Jashari, from which he had taken a tooth and some hairs. So he announced that 33 members of the family were lost, which are my cousins and the sons of my cousins.

" One by one we have cleaned, washed, those bone parts with the greatest care, as if with a deep emotion. I worked with the commander for about 7 hours and when the end came to complete it, one has 206 bone parts and I returned him to the anatomical position to put him in the coffin. Even the skull on the last one, it was an emotion to tell you the truth that I don't even know how it came from the depths of my soul for sure. I was just so excited that maybe I wasn't myself. After 18 years I looked at those video tapes that we have somewhere 15 thousand pictures that we took and the 13 days of work were shot and I have these work videos. Even when we made a documentary, to be honest, I saw it for the first time after 18 years",  said Gërxaliu.
