New study: Parenting protects the brain from aging

New research has found that raising children can protect your brain from aging.
The parents' brains showed stronger functional connectivity – which typically decreases with age – and these effects strengthened with each child.
While there are several possible explanations for the discovery, experts said everyone's brain can benefit from social support and challenging mental activities.
The findings make sense, Michelle DiBlasi, chief of Inpatient Psychiatry at Tufts Medical Center, told Health.
"Parenting is a really critical time for both men and women, where their brains need to adapt and change in order to manage new responsibilities, new social interactions and the overall challenges that come with parenting," she said.
