When the friendly match between the drug cartels ended in bloodshed

In 2020 where everyone was celebrating the turn of the year the Gulf and Zetas Cartels, two of the most powerful criminal gangs in Mexico, who were originally linked before splitting up in 2002, organized a 'friendly' game in Zacatecas at the Cieneguillas prison, where 1000 prisoners were in custody.
But very soon this game turned into complete chaos as weapons were immediately drawn and as a result 16 people died and five others were injured.
20 ambulances arrived at the prison in northern Mexico and visitors were evacuated from the facility as police and soldiers spent more than two hours trying to stop the violence.
After the search, officials discovered four guns believed to have been smuggled into the prison on New Year's Eve, when relatives could be visiting for the last day of the year. Knives were also seized.
Local media wrote at the time that the chaos may have been a deliberate scheme by the convicts to create an escape opportunity.
