The student who can "detach" from her body

Humans have long been fascinated by out-of-body experiences. Are they mind games, or do they have some spiritual significance?

New research sheds light on so-called "out-of-body experiences" by studying the brain activity of a Canadian girl who claims she can leave her body at will.

Scientists believe that the left side of some areas of the brain, which is associated with kinesthetic images (the perception of the sensation of movement), is responsible for the ability to leave the body and rise above it. Also, they believe that people have more such experiences than previously thought.

Researchers at the University of Ottawa studied a psychology student who admitted to having had an embarrassing experience before falling asleep. The 24-year-old revealed that she was able to fly and hover in the air, above her body, and sometimes has the ability to see her body from above, being aware of her real body. However, as she herself says, she feels no emotion when she experiences such experiences.

Scientists believe that it is possible that this phenomenon has a high incidence, but it is not reported because people do not consider it as something special. Also, they think that this ability may be innate, but has been lost with age, due to the fact that it has not been practiced.
