"The EU is very eager to accept new members" - Rama in a conference with the President of the Council of Europe: We will conclude the negotiations within 2027! Here is the appeal to the countries of the region

Prime Minister Edi Rama, at the joint conference with the President of the Council of Europe, Antonio Costa, said that Albania is now officially at the negotiating table.

The head of government once again unveiled his ambitious plan to conclude negotiations by 2027.

Rama stated that 16 chapters have been opened and 8 more will be opened in the coming days.

Rama: The President of the Council of Europe is again in Tirana and of course this is a special pleasure for us and of course it is also a personal pleasure to meet again with the president, who is a dear and very wise friend.

Dear Antonio, thank you very much. We are here today after the President has visited the entire region and has stopped in Tirana also due to the fact that tomorrow he will be present at the summit of the European political community.

We discussed both aspects that connect us with the Council of Europe and the EU regarding our accession process, which is progressing very well. Today, Albania is officially at the negotiating table, with 16 open chapters, 8 of which will be opened in the coming days and we aim to open them all within the year.

As I have shared, the joint plan with the EC is to manage to close the negotiations within three years, from 2024 to 2027. It is an ambitious plan. The EU today, more than ever before, is eager to accept new members, based on merit and results.

The other aspect that we discussed with the president is the progress of the region, because this is also related to the reason why the EU is ready to accept other members. I would like to invite all colleagues in the region, my friends, not to miss this moment that history has brought to our doorstep. Let us use this readiness, without forgetting that history has shown that the enlargement process can be accelerated, but also slowed down.
