"Two mandates, an encouraging result"/ Agron Shehaj: The race was uneven, but our votes were not stolen!

The Chairman of the Opportunity Party, Agron Shehaj, was invited to the show "The Unexposed" on MCN TV, where he spoke about the election results.
Shehaj said that expectations were higher but considered winning two mandates in Tirana "an encouraging result."
"Expectations are always higher. The co-founders and I set an ambitious target. We had a high objective. We had a high expectation that it could reach a parliamentary group, it was not impossible, for seven mandates.
We won two mandates in Tirana. Of course, if we compare it with the expectations of commentators, this would be a very good result, but with our expectations, it is the minimum we expected.
The electoral system is built to prevent new parties. But this is the biggest difficulty, entering Parliament. We entered with two deputies. We received votes in urban areas, areas that are considered areas where leftists vote. It is an encouraging start, although we expected more.
"I said it on the first day, it is a long-term political project. Entering Parliament is the first step. We had the opportunity to do this and this is the beginning. Citizens will have the opportunity in the next four years to judge and evaluate our work. What I have done alone in Parliament, citizens have followed and evaluated me," said Shehaj.
Asked by journalist Ylli Rakipi about the Democratic Party's claims that the elections were rigged, Shehaj said that the competition was not equal, but rejected the claims of election fraud.
"Vote theft is an expression. When we talk about theft, we talk about an unequal competition. The phenomena that have negatively affected the elections have existed before and still exist today. Vote buying, pressure on the administration, the capture of the economy and the media, have contributed to the creation of a situation where the competition was unequal.
We were aware that we were entering such a race. We must raise our voices about this. To say they were stolen? How were they stolen? What we need to do as the opposition is to talk about the phenomena that have turned these elections around, practically we can say that political rotation has become very difficult in Albania, but this could be an alibi for the forces in the opposition, who do not bother to change because they have the regime's card or the injustices that we know always happen. If you ask me if you competed equally, I say yes, but if you ask me if your votes were stolen in the box, of course not," said Shehaj.
