Euro-Atlantic Coalition Program Certified by CDU Experts – Mateo Spaho at AmCham Conference: Tax Cut Promises by Those Under Investigation Are a Mockery of Albanians

The representative of the Euro-Atlantic Coalition, Mateo Spaho, participated in the economic conference of the American Chamber of Commerce in cooperation with Monitor Magazine, where he presented some of the initiatives of the coalition's program for economic support and the fight against corruption in Albania.
In his speech, Spaho emphasized that direct interventions are necessary to support families and young couples. He said that one point of the program is financing for 20 thousand young couples to buy their first home within four years. This plan, as Spaho emphasized, will make life easier for many families and will provide assistance in paying soft loans.
Another part of the program is support for families with children, where up to 20 thousand euros will be offered to those who have a third child. This measure, which will include up to 2 thousand families, will require a total budget of about 40 million euros, an amount that is only 0.5% of the state budget.
"I believe that a direct intervention is needed in terms of payments, in terms of young couples for their first home, to pay off part of the soft loans. Our plan is to finance at least 20 thousand young couples for their first home in four years, to make their lives simpler. Imagine what is happening in the main cities of Albania in terms of value per square meter. We plan and it was even discussed a year ago, regarding the third child. As for the first and second child, we should have a total of assistance for families with two children, and a major and important assistance for families who want to have a third child. The sum of all the benefits that would be given to these families is 20 thousand euros. They will say, what is this 20 thousand euros? You know that today in Albania, unfortunately, no more than 20-25 children are born. And families that have a third child are "only 2 thousand. This whole measure would cost no more than 40 million euros. A budget that is 8 billion euros, 0.5 of the state budget," he said.
Spaho emphasized that the Euro-Atlantic Coalition program has been certified by experts from the German CDU-CSU and is designed to improve living conditions for Albanian families. He also emphasized the importance of the purity of the figures presenting offers in the campaign, who according to him, although they have problems with justice and mainly SPAK, come out with promises in the campaign. Spaho spoke about the importance of vetting politicians and the transition of PPPs to a verification site to check the commitments of concessionaires and the correctness of public contracts.
"Our program has been certified by two leading experts from the German CDU-CSU who still work today in the German Parliament of the CDU and the "Konrad Adenauer" Foundation. And the other element that I believe is very important. Whoever Albanian citizens choose, they will have to choose people who have a face with whom they make their promises. We cannot promise tax cuts, or less corruption, which is the main problem today in Albania, if we have direct problems with SPAK. As the two main parties have today in Albania. The things we can say are very nice, but we must be credible. Then the minimum element is that at least we do not have problems with justice, it is basic to be credible. And the other element is that precisely because we want to build an Albania with as little corruption as possible, we must intervene with the vetting of politicians. This law has been filed in parliament and has not been put on the agenda for a year and a half and of course it will not be put in this situation. The second element is with the anti-corruption and anti-mafia law, where all PPPs will be screened. They are signed contracts, we cannot cut them with an axe, but they will have to be screened. Have all the concessionaires fulfilled their duties or not? - said the representative of the Euro-Atlantic Coalition.
Regarding the tax system, Spaho spoke of the 9% profit tax as a simplified and competitive system, based on assistance to families. He emphasized that this system is an opportunity for Albania to become more competitive in the region and to increase the good management of public money.
"And all the other elements are related to a situation where tax payments will be made in relation to families on a family basis. Today, all of Western Europe has this. So what would happen if I decide to work twice and my wife decides to keep a first, second or third child at home. Then the idea is that I am taxed much more. If we were both working, we would be taxed much less than this progressive tax system that we have today. So the tax system, in my opinion, should be flat, competitive and on a family basis. Because whoever has one or two children, that is, has expenses and they are higher, in relation to a couple that does not yet have children. So, this should be taken into account. The tax on profit should be 9% and flat, because Albania should be competitive in relation to other countries in the region, such as Montenegro which has 9% and of course in this sense, good management of public money is necessary" - he said further Spaho.
