What is happening with Nusret? Turkish chef closes his restaurant in New York

The Turkish butcher, known online as Salt Bae, became an internet sensation and his famous move earned him 52 million followers on Instagram, but it seems that in one of the most competitive restaurant markets in the world – New York City, accepted it. There he could not keep his chain of restaurants open.
Nusret Gökçe was born in Paşalı, a village in Turkey's Erzurum province, in 1983, where he was forced to leave school at the age of 12 to start helping his father, who worked as a miner. After a business trip to Argentina, he opened his first restaurant in Istanbul at the age of 27, in which he claims he made £4,500 on the first day.
With investment from Turkish businessman Ferit Sahenk, he expanded to Ankara, Dubai and Doha, creating the Nusr-Et luxury steakhouse chain. Gökçe, however, became famous after a video of him sprinkling salt in a unique way went viral in January 2017. It was this video that gave the Turkish butcher the nickname Salt Bae, and his hashtag #SaltBae trended on Twitter.
The new internet sensation caught the attention of many celebrities, who were mesmerized by the video and decided to see Gökçen in action. Leonardo Di Caprio visited his restaurant in Dubai a month later in February 2017 and the chef was quick to document it on social media. A year later he opened his first restaurant in the US. In 2022, he had 22 restaurants in different countries around the world, from New York to London, Dubai and other exotic places.
Many, at intervals, saw the truth behind the chef's reputation and the flamboyant lifestyle he displayed. Salt Bae Burger, once called the worst restaurant in New York City, closed a few days ago and left behind a sign saying it's moving to a new location. The closing of Salt Bae Burger is the result of the restaurant's difficult performance in New York City over the past three years.
Many critics are predicting that Salt Bae will disappear from the restaurant scene.
