Mira Murati, the former chief technology officer at OpenAI, has launched efforts to raise funds for her new startup in the field of artificial intelligence. According to sources to Reuters, her company aims to develop new technologies based on self-created models, although it is not yet clear whether she will take on the role of CEO.
Talks are still in the early stages, but Murat is expected to raise over $100 million, thanks to its reputation and the need for capital to train new models. Also, Barrett Zoph, another well-known researcher who left OpenAI on the same day as Murat, may be involved in this venture.
Murat spent more than six years at OpenAI, where he led important projects such as ChatGPT and DALL-E. She played a key role in OpenAI's multibillion-dollar deal with Microsoft, the company's biggest financial backer.
Starting her career at OpenAI in June 2018, Murati was promoted to CTO in May 2022. She has also worked at augmented reality startup Leap Motion and Tesla. After her resignation from OpenAI at the end of September, Murati expressed her desire to pursue new professional challenges and explore innovative projects.
