Door to door! How is the population census being carried out?

Starting from September 18, the Population and Housing Census began in the Republic of Albania.

Journalist Juli Ristani was today in one of the areas of Tirana, together with Jorgo, 24 years old, recruited as a Surveyor and Aleksandra, 20 years old, a student recruited as a Supervisor.

The work of the two young men started at 8 o'clock in the morning, knocking on doors.

"I was notified online about the vacant positions as an online Census supervisor and applied. I saw all the responsibilities and duties that fall upon me and I thought that I can do it. I find this engagement interesting, as I think that in the future I can engage with INSTAT, as a serious institution. The work started according to expectations and will be closed on October 30. Census enumerators are in the field from 8 am to 8 pm and from Monday to Sunday, as there are people who are at work and it is thought that they will have the opportunity to conduct the required interview after work. An interview with the resident of a family or apartment lasts 5 minutes. The data are confidential and will not be used for any other reason than statistical reasons and data processing. Each of us is equipped with a certificate of authorization, a notebook and a tablet", said Jorgo Beluli.

"This Census is conducted for the first time with digital technology and the data is transferred directly to INSTAT and is no longer conducted via paper. We do not use the elevator, as not every elevator helps us count the apartments on each floor. So, according to the unified method, we start counting from left to right for each floor",  said Aleksandra Qeleshi.
