American actor Ben Affleck has told his children that they will have to find "regular" jobs if they want to buy luxury items.
He recently refused to buy his 13-year-old son Samuel $6,000 worth of Dior Air Jordan 1 sneakers. The video went viral almost immediately on social media.
"He wanted those sneakers and I said, 'These sneakers cost $6,000, what are you talking about? What are you going to do, you idiot? Do you have $6,000?'" He said, "We have money," to which I replied, "I'm rich and you're broke," he said on the "Today with Jenna & Friends" show.
He added that it goes without saying that every parent wants to provide everything for their children, but they are not doing them a favor by not teaching them how to earn the things they want.
He also said that Samuel "came down to earth" after not getting the expensive sneakers.
"I told him, 'If you want them, you can work 1,000 hours for minimum wage. When you do those 1,000 hours, you might not want to spend it on sneakers,'" he recounts.
Affleck also has two daughters from his marriage to Jennifer Garner: 19-year-old Violet and 16-year-old Seraphina.
