Real Madrid asks UEFA to reopen disciplinary proceedings against Barca over Negreira case

Real Madrid are going on the offensive. In a statement released this Wednesday, the Madrid club announced that it has sent a letter to UEFA, requesting the reopening of the disciplinary proceedings initiated in the Negreira case.
Los Blancos claim to possess "relevant evidence" that "conclusively reinforce" the already known suspicions regarding payments made by FC Barcelona to José María Enríquez Negreira, former vice-president of the Technical Referees Committee of the Spanish Football Federation.
Between 2001 and 2018, FC Barcelona allegedly paid approximately 7.3 million euros to companies linked to Negreira. The Catalan club claims that these payments were for consultancy services related to arbitration. Former presidents Sandro Rosell and Josep Maria Bartomeu have denied any attempt to buy arbitration favours before a Barcelona court.
The club from the Spanish capital asks UEFA to "immediately resume disciplinary proceedings", considering it "unacceptable that this situation has dragged on".
According to Real Madrid, this matter "seriously damages the credibility of football, its institutions and its leaders" and requires "a firm, exemplary and immediate sporting response", regardless of the outcome of the ongoing legal proceedings.
Real Madrid clarifies that it has no intention of interfering in the Spanish legal system. By joining the criminal proceedings as a civil party, the club affirms that it will continue to pursue all necessary actions, also requesting that UEFA, within its disciplinary powers, take any measures it deems appropriate to guarantee "the integrity, transparency and proper functioning of the competitions."
