Wikipedia legally challenges online safety rules

Wikipedia is taking legal action against new Online Safety Act regulations, which it says could threaten the safety of volunteer editors and their ability to keep harmful content off the site.

The Wikimedia Foundation, considered a non-profit organization that supports the online encyclopedia, is seeking a judicial review of the rules.

This could mean that Wikipedia would have to be subject to the stricter duties required of websites under the law. The government told the BBC it was committed to enforcing the act, but could not comment on ongoing legal proceedings.
