The Journalists' Association of Albania condemns the siege of News24: A flagrant violation of media freedom

The Association of Journalists of Albania (AGSH) has reacted strongly after the police surrounded the offices of News24, Panorama and Gazeta Shqiptare, describing the event as an unacceptable act and a direct threat to press freedom.

According to AGSH, the blockade of journalists' work premises constitutes a flagrant violation of the fundamental principles of democracy and freedom of expression, guaranteed by the Constitution and international human rights instruments.

"Police intervention, which hinders the work of journalists, is open pressure on free media," the organization said in a statement, which calls on state institutions to immediately stop this action and guarantee journalists' access to their workplace.

AGSH also appeals to local and international organizations for freedom of expression to closely monitor the situation and react publicly.
“Any conflict with private televisions should be resolved through understanding and not through force,” the response concludes.
