Today at 10:00, the Court of General Jurisdiction of Appeal in Tirana will decide on the security measures that were appealed by the lawyers of the 10 defendants in the "Bankers Petroleum" tax evasion case, while 4 others are wanted.

The appeal hearing that took place yesterday lasted for more than six hours.

The Chinese CEO of the oil company and the former director have been arrested, while 5 others are under house arrest and 3 are under mandatory reporting.

The arrested have appealed the security measures issued by the Fier Court on July 5.

The General Director of Bankers, Chinese citizen Hong Ping Xiao, and former director Leonidha Çobo have a security measure of "prison arrest".

Five other people have been placed under house arrest, while three others are under mandatory reporting and banned from leaving the country.

The accused claim they are not related to the charges and are requesting more lenient security measures.

The Fier Court issued 14 security measures in total, 10 of which were executed, while 4 employees are still wanted.

The investigations into Bankers have been conducted by the Fier Prosecutor's Office, in cooperation with tax and police structures, and are related to suspicions of false tax declarations and evasion of financial obligations on a massive scale.

The Fier Prosecution Office filed 5 charges in total, "Creation of fraudulent schemes related to VAT", "Hiding income", "Laundering the proceeds of crime", "Abuse of duty" and "Failure to perform duties by tax authorities", arguing that it has collected sufficient evidence.

The action against "Bankers Petroleum" came after the company, which has been extracting oil in Patos-Marinza for more than 20 years, according to the Fier prosecutor's office, has evaded taxes in the country throughout its existence.

"Bankers Petroleum" created a fraudulent scheme to hide its income, declaring for 20 consecutive years that it was losing money, totaling 11.7 billion lek, while during this time it exported or sold 532 billion lek of oil.

In this way, for 20 years, he avoided tax obligations and even benefited from VAT refunds.
