Here's when the African heat ends in Albania
After several days of scorching temperatures, our country is expected to experience a gradual decline in the heat wave starting on Thursday.
This was announced by meteorologist Anira Gjoni during a statement for Euronews Albania, where she analyzed the weather situation and its impact on the spread of fires.
From Thursday, the heat wave will begin to recede more significantly, with temperatures expected to drop to 34 degrees Celsius, while on Friday they will drop to 32 degrees. A slight increase is expected on Saturday, with values around 35 degrees Celsius.
"The extreme temperatures we have seen this August will not return in the coming days," said Gjoni.
According to Gjoni, on Tuesday temperatures reached 41 degrees Celsius in low-lying areas, 37 degrees on the coast and 34 degrees in mountainous areas.
Slightly lower values are predicted for Wednesday, 39 degrees Celsius in low-lying areas, 35 degrees Celsius on the coast and 32 degrees Celsius in mountainous areas.
The areas most at risk from the heat remain those of the western lowlands, where temperatures during the afternoon hours remain high and could further worsen the situation.
"For the last week of August, forecasts show that we will still have hot days, with temperatures in the range of 35–36 degrees Celsius, but not extreme values like previous weeks," she added.
"We can't say it's the hottest year yet, but we're still within one of the hottest years on record. 2024, globally, continues to be the hottest year yet," the meteorology said.
Asked about the fire situation, Gjoni said that the human factor continues to remain the main cause of active fires and high risk in many areas of the country.
"It is not the temperatures of 41-42 degrees Celsius that cause arson, we do not have ideal conditions for spontaneous combustion, the main cause remains deliberate action or human carelessness," she said.
While the heat wave shows signs of receding, the fire situation remains serious and worrying in some parts of the territory.
According to Gjoni, all regions of the country present a high risk of fire spread, including Shkodra (especially in its south), Lezha, Kukës, Elbasan and Tirana, with the southern areas being more exposed.
"However, the drop in temperatures over the weekend is expected to help gradually stabilize the fire situation," the meteorology concluded.
