Greek media writes about Jared Kushner's project on Sazan Island: It will

The son-in-law of US President Donald Trump, the husband of Ivanka, his eldest daughter. Kushner, through his company Affinity Partners, has announced the creation of a luxury tourist resort on the uninhabited island of Sazan. The decision, of course, has already caused enthusiasm and reactions.

USA - Jared Kushner, the son-in-law of the US President, is building a luxury resort on the Albanian island at a cost of 1.4 billion dollars. A new and extremely ambitious investment in the Mediterranean is being led by Jared Kushner.

Sazani was given by Greece to Albania in 1914 by law (with only two articles), by the Greek Parliament. It then became a militarized island located at the entrance to the Gulf of Vlora, in a strategic position in the Ionian Sea, facing Italy. During the Cold War, the island was a naval base of the communist regime of Enver Hoxha and was completely closed to the public. After the fall of the regime, it was abandoned, remaining essentially "frozen", with dilapidated military installations and, of course, zero tourist exploitation.

A luxurious destination

Kushner, impressed by the island's natural beauty and "unspoiled" potential, is planning to transform it into a luxury resort. The plan calls for the creation of an eco-resort, residences, hotels, restaurants, a marina and water sports facilities. At the same time, some of the military structures will be restored, creating a kind of "museum."

The Albanian government of Prime Minister Edi Rama has described the investment as "strategic". And it has its own reasons for this. On the one hand, only in this way can it "declassify" the area and transform it from military to tourist. On the other hand, because it expects economic cooperation with the Trump family to promote other interests.

So, he gave a 99-year lease to Atlantic Incubation Partners LLC, which is affiliated with Affinity. According to government sources, the project is expected to create over 1,000 jobs, increase tourism GDP and put Albania on the international investment scene. Kushner’s logic is to attract the international jet-set, offering them a quasi-private island where they can spend their days undisturbed, away from prying eyes.

However, there is no shortage of geopolitical interpretations. Analysts note that the presence of a company directly linked to Trump's close family circle strengthens Tirana-Washington relations, especially since Trump's re-election to the White House. There are also reports that the project aims to prevent the entry of Russian or Chinese capital into the sensitive southern Ionian region.

For other analysts, this investment could also play the role of a dress rehearsal. It has not been long since Donald Trump has seriously put on the table the transformation of the entire Gaza Strip into a tourist resort. If the investment in Sazan is successful, this could be another guarantee of Trump's effectiveness in this type of business.

Of course, there are objections. Sazan is located within the Karaburun-Sazan National Marine Park, a protected area with rich biodiversity, tropical ecosystems and endemic species. Environmental groups have already raised concerns about the investment’s impact on the environment and the sustainability of the area. They point out that a comprehensive Environmental Impact Assessment has not been carried out, while questions remain about how the company will manage old military waste, which may include unexploded ordnance.

In his statements, Kushner has maintained that his approach is environmentally sensitive and that his goal is to preserve and highlight the island’s natural beauty. However, he finds himself facing opposition from organizations such as the activist group EcoAlbania, which are already reporting that the “Trump” brand in Albania could become synonymous with overexploitation.

Trump Island

The investment has already taken on symbolic meaning for locals, who now call Sazan “Trump Island,” even though Donald Trump is not officially involved in the company. Locally, many Albanians hope the investment will fundamentally change their lives, creating jobs and improving infrastructure, while others are concerned about the changing character of the area. Some media outlets in the neighboring country express fears that there will also be a change in population, with the influx of American citizens, but also foreigners who will work in the area.

Despite the ambitious announcements, the project is still in its early stages. It is preceded by procedures for clearing the land from old explosives, preparing studies and negotiating with local authorities. Whether Sassona will ultimately be transformed into a new destination with high tourist value or will evolve into another unfinished Mediterranean dream, this will soon be seen. However, the willingness of the Trump family to invest in our neighborhood is more than evident./  Newmoney
