Foot-and-mouth disease, which affects livestock, has appeared in recent days in Greece, resulting in the suspension of animal imports from Albania.
Foot-and-mouth disease is considered one of the most dangerous livestock diseases because this virus is not cured, and infected animals are destroyed because this infection spreads rapidly among cows, sheep, goats, and pigs.
Veterinarian, Prof. Dr. Vangjel Ceroni, stated to Top Channel that foot-and-mouth disease is one of the most serious diseases that livestock has encountered.
" It is one of the most serious diseases that livestock has encountered. Epizootic aphthous stomatitis is not treated because when the animal shows clinical signs, everything is over. It is important to prevent it," the veterinarian stated.
Although the disease is transmitted from humans to animals, it is worth noting that foot-and-mouth disease does not endanger human life.
On the other hand, it is extremely aggressive for animals because within a very short period of time, the epizootic strain has the power to annihilate farm animals.
