Journalist Klodiana Lala, during a statement for the show "The Unexposed" on MCN TV, provided details of the seizure of several illegal eavesdropping devices that entered Albanian territory from three Italian citizens, two of whom were Guardia di Finanza officials.
Lala said that the Italian citizens were allowed to leave, but the device was kept in Albania and the Prosecution is investigating. The journalist added that the incident was hidden and there is no official information from the authorities, while it is still not known what was intercepted.
"An event that has not received attention in the media, I do not understand why. It is about a major scandal that is being consumed in the territory of Albania. The devices are sophisticated interception devices, they are in the premises of the Durrës Prosecutor's Office. I became aware on Saturday, it was confirmed to me that some people had traveled by ferry on the Bari-Durres line, they had arrived on Friday at the Port of Durres. In their vehicle, according to trusted sources, there are three Italian citizens, they entered Albania, they stayed 12-13 hours, it is thought that they carried out illegal, unauthorized interceptions, there was no joint team, after they had finished the work, these citizens were detained when they were about to take the Durrës-Ancona ferry.
They introduced themselves as Guardia di Finanza employees. Two of them turned out to be real. It is not known whether they had authorization from their superiors. The third person was contacted and was taken by Guardia officials to use the equipment. They were questioned, and all three were allowed to leave for Italy.
The devices are blocked and are expected to undergo an examination. The prosecution has appointed a prosecutor. The police have referred him, there is no official reaction, they have secretly sent him to the prosecution for two offenses, illegal wiretapping and the introduction of contraband goods.
We have had a history of suspicious eavesdropping devices, if you recall it was the IMSI Catcher device, which was suspected of being used in prisons. An Israeli was arrested. There were two other cases where people were blocked at the entrance or exit.
The specific case is worrying because two people are from the Guardia di Finanza, they are moving for members of organized crime or politicians who may have links to organized crime. The authorities are silent, the scandal is getting even bigger.
"Why were these people allowed to leave? They could have been kept at least with their passports blocked until the equipment was expertly examined," Lala said, among other things.
