25 years since the bombing of Belgrade, Putin: Tragedy, NATO started a war in the center of Europe

Russian President Vladimir Putin has said that the US-led NATO alliance launched a war in central Europe in 1999, when it began its bombing campaign against Yugoslavia.

A quarter of a century later, aggression deserves nothing but punishment, Putin said.

The Russian leader made his comments in an interview for a documentary called 'Belgrade' which is being shown on Sunday and is dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the start of NATO airstrikes.

"What the West did was completely unacceptable. Without any resolution of the UN Security Council, they directly started a military operation, a war in the center of Europe and with the bombing of the capital of Yugoslavia, Belgrade ," said Putin.
