With 250 fatalities recorded, the most serious incidents include the collision of an American Airlines plane with a military helicopter and the recent crash of a flight from India to London. These events have raised concerns among passengers: Is it still safe to fly?

Shawn Pruchnicki, a former Delta Connection pilot and now an expert in air accident investigation, says he is not surprised by the increase in accidents.

He, currently a professor at Ohio State University, recalls a similar incident he experienced himself at JFK Airport: “ We refused to cross onto a runway, even though we were given permission. Just seconds later, a Boeing 747 sped past us. If we had followed the instructions, we would have crashed .”

The two main problems, according to him, are the chronic shortage of air traffic controllers: "They are exhausted and they know that a single mistake can cost lives."

As well as the hiring of pilots with insufficient experience: “Airlines are pushing to train pilots with fewer flight hours to fill the gaps. This increases the risk.”

However, flight safety remains at relatively high levels.

"We need investments in technology that reinforce the role of humans, not replace them," the expert suggests.

He emphasizes that the danger lies not in a single mistake, but in an entire system under pressure: insufficient staff, poor training and ever-increasing air traffic.
