Ceasefire nears expiration, Vice President Vance to travel to Pakistan for talks

United States Vice President JD Vance is expected to leave for Islamabad by Tuesday morning to hold talks with Iran regarding a possible agreement to end the conflict, American media outlet Axios reports.

According to the report, Vance will arrive in Pakistan at a critical moment, when the current ceasefire is about to expire, around midnight on April 21. There is currently no agreement on its extension, while it remains unclear whether the Iranian side will participate in the talks.

The American delegation is also expected to include Donald Trump's envoys, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, who will also travel to Islamabad.

Meanwhile, Trump has warned of the possibility of launching a new air campaign against targets in Iran, including bridges and power plants, if a deal is not reached. He has stressed that he will not rush to sign a bad deal, but has not ruled out the possibility of a deadline extension.

According to Axios, Trump has hinted that the deadline could be extended until Wednesday evening, effectively giving negotiations an extra day.

On the other hand, the White House has been waiting all Monday for a signal from Tehran about the participation of the Iranian delegation in the talks. Sources close to the developments say that the Iranian side has hesitated, due to pressure from the Revolutionary Guard for the negotiators to take a tougher stance, demanding that any dialogue be conditioned on the lifting of the American blockade.
