US-Iran deal reached, only Trump's signature awaited

US and Iranian negotiators have reached a preliminary agreement on a 60-day memorandum of understanding aimed at extending the ceasefire and opening new negotiations on Iran's nuclear program, US officials and a regional source involved in the mediation report.

According to sources, the agreement is not yet final, as it requires the approval of US President Donald Trump, who has not yet given the final "green light".

Even Tehran has not officially confirmed its acceptance.

The memorandum envisages opening negotiations on key issues such as how to handle enriched uranium and restrictions on Iran's nuclear enrichment.

The US will also discuss sanctions relief and access to frozen funds, in exchange for Iranian commitments.

US officials, including the team of Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, say the agreement is intended simply to bring the parties to the table for a 60-day phase of intensive negotiations, with no guarantee of a final agreement.

The document also includes principles for the free movement of shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and the gradual resumption of commercial circulation.

However, the process remains fragile: as negotiations were being finalized, minor clashes have been reported in the region, highlighting the ongoing tensions between the two sides.

According to American officials, if during the negotiations it turns out that Iran is not willing to meet the conditions for its nuclear program, the US does not rule out either economic pressure or military options.
