"The degraded power of the DP robbed the elections in 1996"/ Rama

The Socialist Party is celebrating its 35th anniversary with a tour of the districts by its leader Edi Rama himself.

After Durrës a few days ago, today he was in the city of Korça meeting with citizens and supporters.

During his speech, Rama also recalled the difficult times of the socialists, such as May 26, 1996, when they were violated by the regime of the former government of Sali Berisha and the DP, as he said, and three decades later, on May 26, the SP elevated the country to the top of Europe with the intergovernmental conference to close the negotiations.

Rama focused on the coincidence of May 26, initially recalling 1996, a time when the socialists in opposition faced the violence of the then Democratic Party government, and comparing it to May 26 of recent successes on the path to European integration.

"A great coincidence brought together a date, May 26. Two significant moments of the SP. May 26, 1996, where the socialists faced the fury of violence and brutality that put Albania in front of the real challenge of building democracy. That moment placed the SP in an extremely dramatic situation. Those who were on the front line were barbarically violated, just as the result of those elections was violated and robbed by the degraded power of the DP," he said, among other things.

The Prime Minister openly accused his political opponent of that violence, even though he was not part of the SP at the time, but fell victim to brutal violence months later.

"That May 26th today is unimaginable. The opposition was regularly violated. Albania at that time had only one opposition newspaper, and even that was reduced to ashes by what was truly a brutal regime. Whereas a few days ago, precisely on May 26th, the Socialist Party raised Albania one more peak higher, to the peak that we have been entrusted with by our ancestors, where the home of the United Europe is located. Today we have raised the head of every Albanian everywhere in the world", Rama said to the socialists of Korça.

His speech was short also due to the weather conditions, as it started to rain in the square and at the time the rally was being held, and the prime minister said that "I will not bore you with long speeches anymore", as even the rain reminded him of Albania at that time and the violence suffered by the socialists.

He also described it as a blessing for victory in the upcoming local elections.

"Now we have opened the chapter of closing the negotiations. What they did not say and what they will not say, but let them say what they want, we say what we do and we do what we say. I will stop here. they did for the negotiations. I do not want to keep you under the rain any longer. But if the rain started by hearing what Albania was, let it continue as the blessing that we will have and let it fall on this celebration of the 35th anniversary of the SP here in Korça, also announcing an extraordinary victory like the one we will achieve in the next elections."

His statement also received a standing ovation from those present as the meeting closed.
