Ukrainian delegation in Miami, Witkoff reports on talks with Putin

A new meeting between Ukrainian and American officials is expected to take place in Miami, Florida, as part of discussions on Donald Trump's proposed peace plan for Ukraine.

The meeting, confirmed to Agence France-Presse by a representative in Kiev, comes shortly after contacts that US officials have had with Vladimir Putin in Moscow.

"Yes, a new meeting is expected today," said Oleksandr Bevz, adviser to the head of the Ukrainian presidential office, adding that Kiev's chief negotiator, Rustem Umerov, is already in Miami.

According to a Reuters source, Witkoff is expected to brief the Ukrainian official on the conversation he had this week in Moscow with Russian President Vladimir Putin, adding that today's meeting is not intended to focus directly on the American peace plan.

A US official, who requested anonymity, said on Wednesday that Trump's envoy, Steve Witkoff, and the US president's son-in-law, Jared Kushner, were expected to meet with Umerov on Thursday in Florida.

Mykhailo Podolyak, an adviser to the Ukrainian presidency, emphasized on the X platform that “although the diplomatic process is taking place mainly behind the scenes, the positions are clear.” “Ukraine wants to end the war and is ready for talks,” he added.

Since the presentation of Trump's plan nearly three weeks ago, several rounds of meetings have been held with the Ukrainian side in Geneva and Florida, with the aim of making changes to the text in favor of Kiev.

Meanwhile, the Russian army continues its advance on the front today, announcing that it has taken control of the Bezimené area in the Donetsk region, the epicenter of the fighting in eastern Ukraine.

For its part, the Ukrainian air force announced that Russia launched 137 drones overnight, of which 80 were shot down.
