G7 ready to support global energy supplies, not committed to action in Middle

Foreign ministers from the G7 have said they are ready to "take the necessary measures to support global energy supplies."

However, they do not commit to action in key sea lanes like the Strait of Hormuz, which have been effectively closed by Iran's war.

In a new statement this afternoon, ministers point to actions such as the release of previously agreed reserves.

"We express support for our partners in the region in the face of unjustified attacks by the Islamic Republic of Iran and its proxies," ministers from Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States, as well as the EU's top diplomat, said in a statement.

"We condemn in the strongest terms the regime's reckless attacks against civilians and civilian infrastructure, including energy infrastructure," they added.
