"Women Shouldn't Vote"/ Secretary of Defense Reposts Video with Extreme Views, Causes Controversy
US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has sparked controversy after reposting a video on social media of pastors from a Christian nationalist church arguing that women should not be allowed to vote. The move has raised questions about Hegseth's ties to far-right ideas and their influence in government.
The reposted video, part of a CNN report, featured various pastors from the Communion of Evangelical Reformed Churches (CREC), co-founded by Doug Wilson. In the video, one pastor openly supported the repeal of women's suffrage, while another suggested voting as a "family."
Hegseth captioned the post with the caption “All Christ for All Life,” a slogan used by the movement. The post received a large number of likes, but also drew a lot of negative reactions. Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell confirmed that Hegseth is a member of a church affiliated with CREC and “highly values Wilson’s writings and teachings.”
This is not the first time Hegseth's ties to far-right ideas have caused concern. In May, he invited his personal pastor to the Pentagon to hold a prayer service, sending out invitations via government emails.
This initiative, along with the recent repost, highlights Hegseth's commitment to his vision, as Wilson himself expressed it: "I would like to see the nation be a Christian nation and I would like to see the world be a Christian world."
