When the Alaskan clock strikes 5:30 in the morning, journalists are lining up to enter the military base, where the meeting between US President Donald Trump and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin will take place.

" We are about 200 American and international journalists, in a car park in Anchorage, boarding buses that will take us inside the US military base to cover the joint press conference expected after the Trump-Putin summit ," says BBC correspondent Sarah Smith.

Three hours later, we are still stuck on the buses waiting for the secret service to check us and our equipment before allowing us to move on, she says.
