These countries will be the first to welcome the year 2026

While most of the world is still preparing for the end-of-year celebrations, several countries in the Pacific will be the first to officially enter 2026. Thanks to their geographical position and the most advanced time zones in the world, these destinations will experience the moment of the change of years many hours before Europe and America.
Kiritimati Island, part of the island nation of Kiribati, will be the first inhabited place to enter on January 1, 2026. The island is located in the UTC+14 time zone, and midnight there is around 11:00 Albanian time. Traditional celebrations are expected to begin immediately with local activities, music, and symbolic ceremonies.
After Kiribati, it's New Zealand's Chatham Islands, which are in a unique time zone of UTC+13:45. Just a few minutes later, the rest of New Zealand will welcome the new year, followed by Samoa and Tonga, creating a chain of celebrations that gradually moves westward.
In places like Fiji and eastern Australia, the turn of the year is traditionally marked by spectacular fireworks, public concerts and family gatherings. Large cities and local communities organize festive activities, making New Year's Eve a special moment for residents and tourists.
Thus, the Pacific symbolically opens the first chapter of 2026, while celebrations then continue in the rest of the globe.
