Bad weather in Italy, river levels rise, schools closed in Bologna and Florence

Italy has been hit by bad weather with heavy rainfall this Friday.

A red alert has been issued in Emilia-Romagna due to possible river flooding and landslides.

Heavy rain hit areas around Forlì, Ravenna, Bologna and Ferrara overnight.

Meanwhile in Tuscany, there is an orange alert for bad weather and schools are closed in many municipalities including Florence and other provincial capitals.

Rain continued throughout the night in the area, especially in the Mugello area of ​​Florence.

The flood service has been activated for several waterways including the Arno, at the first warning level also in Florence, with a flow in the order of 1000 cubic meters per second in the Uffizi, as well as Bagno a Ripoli, Lastra a Signa and Montelupo.

River levels are rising in particular in Senio, Lamone and Santerno have exceeded the yellow alert threshold in the Apennine areas, while Lamone in Marradi has exceeded the orange threshold.

Orange alert also for large areas of Tuscany. Schools closed in Bologna and Florence.

Yellow alert for part of Lazio, Abruzzo, Marche, Umbria, Veneto, Lombardy, Campania and all of Molise.

Italian media report that further deterioration of the weather is expected in the coming hours with heavy and continuous rainfall until the afternoon.
