Owned by an official from Vučić's party/ 5 tons of drugs seized, Serbian president: The state has no connection!
Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić said on February 1 that the state has no connection to the affair that emerged after the seizure of five tons of marijuana on the property of a local official of the ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SNS).
He said that the police "arrested people" and that his political opponents "turned everything upside down" and claim that the state is behind the affair.
"The police found five tons of some kind of drug. Now, whether only the son knew about this or both, both the son and the father, that's another matter, let the competent authorities decide, I don't want to claim anything. We carried out that operation," Vučić told Pink Television.
On January 29, the Serbian Police, in cooperation with the Prosecutor's Office for Organized Crime, confiscated five tons of marijuana in the area of the village of Konjuh near Kruševac, in central Serbia.
Suspects in this case are Aleksandar Mijajlović, Nebojša Spasojević, Rade Spasojević, Ivan Dragnić and Uroš Mladenovski.
Authorities have requested the issuance of an arrest warrant, including an international one, for Aleksandar Mijajlovic, who has been identified as the organizer of the organized criminal group and is now on the run.
According to Serbian authorities, the group operated internationally and seized five tons of marijuana on the territory of North Macedonia during January.
The president of the opposition People's Movement of Serbia party, Miroslav Aleksic, said in a post on X - formerly Twitter, that one of those arrested during the drug seizure was an advisor to the ruling Serbian Progressive Party in Kruševac.
Aleksic said that the arrested person is a "close friend and assistant" of the family of Defense Minister Bratislav Gasic.
Minister Gashiq has not made any comments following the accusations, nor has he mentioned the name of the arrested person.
Through a statement published in Serbian newspapers, he congratulated the police and security authorities for the action, saying that actions like these show that "there are no protected people in Serbia."/REL
