International anti-drug operation, cocaine worth 5.5 million euros seized in Thessaloniki, three arrested

A police operation has led to the discovery and seizure of a quantity of 271 kilograms of cocaine, with an estimated value of over 5.5 million euros, hidden in a container at the Port of Thessaloniki. The cargo originated in Latin America and was destined for Aspropyrgos, Greece.
The operation was carried out following information received from the United Kingdom's National Crime Agency (NCA), which was passed on to the Greek authorities. Subsequently, the Directorate for the Fight against Organized Crime, in cooperation with several other police and customs units, conducted an in-depth investigation.
On August 6, 2025, the container was identified and monitored by Greek authorities in an operation known as “controlled delivery,” allowing the cargo to reach its destination in Aspropyrgos, where three members of the criminal organization were subsequently arrested.
During the search, a modified compartment in the container was found, inside which 271,150 kilograms of cocaine were hidden, which was seized. A 47-year-old man, responsible for coordinating operations and communicating with key members of the network.
A 32-year-old man who was involved in distributing cocaine to other members. A 40-year-old man, the owner of a transport company, who had made available the means and premises for hiding and distributing the drugs.
One of the arrested individuals refused to submit to the search and was detained for insubordination. During the search of his apartment, a small amount of cocaine was found.
According to the authorities, the organization had a professional structure and well-organized transnational activity, with defined roles, and operated in cocaine trafficking from Latin America to Greece for large financial gains.
During the operation, the following were seized: Equipment belonging to the transport company (crane, welding machine, work tools, etc.). Investigations continue to identify other members of the criminal network in Greece and Latin America, including the leaders of the organization.
