Brussels Fair/ Here's who's declared the car of the year

The Mercedes-Benz CLA was named the 2025 Car of the Year at the Brussels Motor Show today, the second such award for Mercedes in the history of this poll.

Six other models competed for this award, "Fiat Grade Panda", "Skoda Elrok", "Citroen C5 Ercross", "Dacia Bigster", "Renault 4" and "Kia EV4".

The CLA won 320 points in the European journalists' vote, with a significant advantage over the Skoda Elrock with 220 points and the Kia EV4, which received 206 points.

A total of 59 jury members from 23 countries voted in this competition. Each jury member had 25 points to distribute, no car could receive more than 10 points from a member, and at least five cars had to receive points from each member.

The CLA was the first choice for the 22 jury members, while the Citroen C5 Aircross took the most first places among the other finalists, 15 in total.

The jury emphasized that despite the higher price and somewhat worse space-to-comfort ratio, the CLA offers important advantages, such as a multi-energy platform - a 48V hybrid version and an electric version - as well as an exceptionally high driving quality. The buyer of this vehicle has a choice, as he can use a traditional engine with the help of electric technology or a fully electric mode when he wants to drive without harmful gas emissions.

The CLA's victory highlights Mercedes' technological advancements, particularly in the electric and hybrid vehicle segment, and sets a new standard in the premium compact car class, reports the Autokar portal.
