European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen congratulated the new Hungarian Prime Minister, Peter Magyar, today, stating that the hope and promise of "a new impetus" in Hungary constitute a "strong signal in these difficult times."
"On this Europe Day, our hearts are in Budapest," she wrote in a post on the X platform.
Meanwhile, the president of the European Council, Antonio Costa, welcomed "a new chapter in the history of Hungary" after Peter Magyar's convincing victory in parliamentary elections against nationalist Viktor Orban.
"We are ready to work with the new Hungarian government," he added during a press conference in Brussels.
