The impasse over the import of Italian wine is resolved, Albania and Italy agree on technical procedures

Albania and Italy have agreed on a technical solution to the problems that have accompanied the import of Italian wine into our country, paving the way for the normal continuation of procedures for economic operators.
In an official announcement, Albanian Customs announces that the Italian Customs Agency has accepted the proposal submitted by the Albanian side to resolve the current situation affecting wine imports from Italy, in accordance with the Italian legislation in force.
According to the announcement, detailed technical clarifications on the procedures will be published on the official website of Albanian Customs, while importers are invited to continue imports according to the rules in force.
Since the beginning of this year, operators importing wine from Italy have faced increased excise duty payments, due to the non-application of the differentiation provided for in the legislation.
The Albanian legal framework provides for different excise tax levels for imported wine, depending on the production capacity of the exporting entity.
Specifically, the law distinguishes between producers with annual production of up to 10,000 hectoliters and those with production above this threshold, which in practice is known as a differentiated excise tax on wine.
The technical agreement between the two customs administrations aims to avoid obstacles in import procedures and guarantee the correct implementation of the differentiated excise duty scheme for operators importing wine from Italy.
