Reuters: Hamas accepts US proposal for ceasefire with Israel and release of hostages

Reuters has reported that Hamas has accepted the US-drafted proposal for a 60-day ceasefire in Gaza and a hostage release agreement, although it has requested some minor changes to the wording.
The draft agreement was approved this week by Israeli Minister of Strategic Affairs Ron Dermer during his visit to Washington.
"We have submitted to the mediators, Qatar and Egypt, our response to the ceasefire proposal.
"Hamas' response is positive and I think it should help and facilitate reaching an agreement," a Hamas official told Reuters on condition of anonymity.
According to the draft ceasefire agreement, eight live hostages would be released on the first day of the ceasefire, with two more to follow on the 50th day.
The plan also outlines a phased return of Israeli hostages, five on the seventh day of the ceasefire, another five on the 30th day and the final eight on the 60th day.
According to the draft agreement, a total of ten live hostages will be released and the bodies of 18 others will be returned.
The agreement, brokered by Qatar, is based on the so-called Witkoff framework proposed by US envoy Steve Witkoff.
Reuters writes that the Hamas group wants guarantees that negotiations to end the war will take place during the 60-day ceasefire and that the ceasefire will be extended if necessary, until both sides reach an agreement.
Hamas also wants the United Nations to be re-involved in providing aid, to ensure that humanitarian needs are met, including the operation of bakeries, and that Israel not restrict it or use it as leverage during negotiations.
