Russia: If the US uses nuclear weapons on Iran it would be catastrophic

The possible use of tactical nuclear weapons by the United States on Iran would be a catastrophic development.
This was stated by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, according to the Russian state news agency Tass.
Peskov commented on what he described as speculative media reports regarding the possibility of using such weapons. However, the Kremlin spokesman did not mention which media outlets had reported on this.
The Guardian newspaper reported that US defense officials have been told that using conventional bombs against Iran's underground Fordo uranium enrichment facility would not be enough to completely destroy the facility. According to the newspaper, destroying the facility would require strikes, initially with conventional bombs, and then B-2 bombers could drop tactical nuclear weapons.
However, the British newspaper said that US President Donald Trump is not considering the use of a tactical nuclear weapon at Fordow and that this possibility has not been raised by US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth and the Chief of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Dan Caine during meetings at the White House.
Trump said on Thursday that any decision on possible US involvement in the conflict between Israel and Iran would be made within two weeks.
Russia, which has close ties with Iran, has warned strongly against a US military intervention on Israel's side./ REL
