This Wednesday evening, thousands of young people took to the streets in several cities in Serbia to protest, clashing with supporters of the country's president, Aleksandar Vučić.

According to local media reports, protests took place in Novi Sad, Niš, Kragujevac and several other cities throughout Serbia.

Citizens and students headed towards one of the SNS headquarters, where they were greeted by party supporters who were there to protect the building.

When they arrived at the party premises, they began shooting at it with pyrotechnic devices and breaking the windows of the building.

There they clashed with Vučić's supporters, who, according to what the latter said shortly afterwards in a statement to the media, were there to protect the building.

"They gathered in front of their house to show all the people that they protect and defend their own and do not touch anyone else's children, buildings and homes ," Vučić said, among other things.

Also in other cities where protests are taking place, the situation is tense between demonstrators, government supporters and police. The evening protests are a reaction to yesterday's clashes between opponents of the government and its supporters.

Protests organized by students have been taking place across Serbia for nine months in response to the collapse of the reconstructed roof of the Novi Sad Railway Station on November 1, 2024, in which 16 people lost their lives.
