Trump names new commander of US forces in Europe! He will also lead NATO

The administration of US President Donald Trump has officially proposed the name of General Grinkewitz for the position of commander of US forces in Europe, who will simultaneously assume the role of Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR), one of the highest military positions in the NATO structure.
The appointment must be approved by the US Senate and is considered a development that is expected to bring relief to the ranks of European allies, at a time when Trump's critical rhetoric towards NATO and his lukewarm stance on the war in Ukraine have raised concerns about the future of American commitment to the Alliance.
The post of SACEUR, since its creation after World War II, has always been held by an American general – starting with Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1951 – and is responsible for directing all NATO military operations in Europe.
Since the beginning of his term, Trump has increased pressure on European countries to increase defense spending and take more responsibility for the continent's security. According to internal sources, the US administration has even discussed the possibility of entrusting this post to a European country in the future - a scenario that would constitute a historic change in the structure of NATO.
