This is not the first time Trump has struggled with the correct pronunciation of countries like Azerbaijan and Armenia in his public statements. The comments came as part of a list of seven conflicts that Trump claimed to have resolved within the first six months of his second term as president. Nagorno-Karabakh, an area within Azerbaijan, was declared by ethnic Armenian separatists as an independent republic and later known as Artsakh. The territory was held by Armenian separatists for nearly 30 years until Azerbaijan regained control of most of the territory after a six-week war in 2020 and a ceasefire agreement brokered by Russia.
