Trump: I will only meet with Putin if he meets with Zelensky

US President Donald Trump will meet with Vladimir Putin next week only if the Russian president agrees to meet with Volodymyr Zelensky, according to reports.

"Putin has to meet with Zelensky for the meeting to happen," a White House official told the New York Post. "A location has not been set yet."

This comes after the Kremlin confirmed earlier today that Trump and Putin will sit down in the "coming days", with the Russian president suggesting the United Arab Emirates as a possible location.

But Putin also downplayed the possibility of direct talks with Zelensky, saying a meeting could only take place after "certain conditions" are met.

"I have nothing against this in general, it is possible, but certain conditions need to be created for this. But unfortunately, we are still far from creating such conditions," he told reporters in the Kremlin.

Ben Wallace, Britain's former defense secretary, previously said that Britain should also be involved in the talks, otherwise Zelensky could be "forced" to accept a peace deal.
