VIDEO/ Shooting in Sydney, two people open fire at a beach party, at least 10 dead

An incident of gun violence has occurred on Bondi Beach, in Sydney's eastern suburbs, with New South Wales Police confirming that shots were fired and urging citizens to avoid the area while investigations and a security operation continue.
Initial reports say 16 people have been taken to hospital with injuries, while an anonymous government source told Sky News Australia that 10 people have died. Watch the powerful video from the beach immediately after the shooting.

Witnesses said that at around 6.40pm local time on Sunday, two men got out of a vehicle on Campbell Parade, near Bondi Pavilion, and opened fire, which lasted for about ten minutes. Video footage recorded by bystanders reportedly shows two men dressed in black shooting near the beach, where nearly 2,000 people had gathered.

According to the same information, powerful firearms were used (one of which was found abandoned in a tree in the area), with authorities estimating that at least 30 shots were fired.
A man who witnessed the shooting said he saw at least 10 people lying on the ground. “I saw at least 10 people on the ground and there was blood everywhere,” Harry Wilson, who witnessed the shooting, told the Sydney Morning Herald. There has been no official statement from authorities on the number of victims. Two men have reportedly been arrested, while a video circulating shows a bystander restraining and disarming one of the suspected attackers.
A large force of police, ambulances and other emergency services have been called to the scene, while the area has been cordoned off. Authorities are urging anyone in the area to seek shelter. “Anyone in the area should seek shelter. Police are on the scene and more information will be released as it becomes available,” NSW Police said in a statement.
The incident occurred at a particularly busy time, as thousands of locals and tourists were on the beach after a day of temperatures reaching 30 degrees Celsius. At the same time, on Sunday evening, an event to celebrate the Jewish holiday of Hanukkah, called “Hanukkah by the Sea,” was taking place in the area, which was advertised as a family-friendly event.
A spokesman for Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese also commented on the incident, saying: "We are aware of an active security situation in the Bondi area. We urge anyone in the area to follow the instructions of New South Wales Police."
Israeli President Isaac Herzog has condemned the gun attack on Sydney's Bondi Beach during a Hanukkah celebration, calling on Canberra to combat the "great wave of anti-Semitism" that, he says, is "disrupting Australian society".
"Our sisters and brothers in Sydney, Australia, were attacked by despicable terrorists in a very cruel attack on Jews who went to light the first candle of Hanukkah," said Herzog, speaking at an event at the Presidential Residence in Jerusalem.
"We reiterate our repeated warnings to the Australian government to take action and combat the rising tide of anti-Semitism that is plaguing Australian society," he added.
"Our condolences... we pray for the recovery of the injured, we pray for them and we pray for those who lost their lives," he said.
