Language skills of Albanians, how many of them speak foreign languages
According to data published by INSTAT, as a result of Cens 2023, it is found that out of 2.4 million inhabitants, 49.4% are men and the rest are women. "Scan Intel" has analyzed the figures to understand how many foreign languages both sexes speak.

In a population of 2.4 million inhabitants, 91% of them speak Albanian as their mother tongue, with a slightly higher percentage of women compared to men. Specifically, there are approximately 1.1 million women and 1.08 million men who speak the mother tongue. In addition to the Albanian language, a significant number of them also speak foreign languages. In total, 37,033 citizens speak at least one other language, while 13,719 of them speak several foreign languages.

According to statistical data, it turns out that the gap between women and men who own and speak several foreign languages is small. Women who speak several languages make up 50.2% of the total, while men make up 49.8%.

But a significant part of the respondents chose not to answer regarding the skills they have to learn foreign languages. There are respectively 29,120 citizens who refused to answer this question, where the majority were men.

We can say that these data reflect a strong trend towards multilingualism and the high degree of interest in foreign languages in our country. Although the Census questionnaire does not specify which foreign language the Albanian citizens speak the most, we can say that the English language is widely used in our country, both in university and work environments.

According to a study by EF EPI, on the skills of using and knowing the English language, Albania was evaluated with 533 points in 2023, thus ranking 39th among 108 countries. According to the table of points, Albania belongs to the range of 500-549 points, which indicate a B2 level of the participants who underwent the test. If we compare the knowledge acquired by the Albanian participants, the figures show that they are better acquainted with the English language than 62% of the participants from 108 countries of the world.
