Smuggling soft drinks from North Macedonia, 38-year-old arrested in Debar

The Dibra Police have finalized the operation codenamed "Shipment", cracking down on a case of smuggling of suspected goods illegally imported from North Macedonia. A 38-year-old man has been arrested, while his brother has been declared wanted. In addition, three customs officers from the Bllate Border Crossing Point have been criminally prosecuted, suspected of abuse of office.

The operation was carried out by specialists from the Crime Investigation Sector at the Dibër Police Department, in cooperation with the Dibër Border Police Commissariat, following information obtained through operational channels.

During the search of a “Benz” van, stopped on the Maqellarë-Bulqizë road, the police found 762 packages of soft drinks without accompanying documentation. The searches continued in the suspect’s apartment and in another “Volkswagen” vehicle, where 1,296 more packages of soft drinks and 638 boxes of food products, mainly sauces, were discovered.

Following investigative actions, citizen EH, 38 years old, resident of the village of Pocest, Maqellara, was arrested in flagrante delicto, suspected of the criminal offenses of "Smuggling of other goods" and "Trading and transporting contraband goods". Meanwhile, the police declared his brother, LH, wanted.

POLICE ANNOUNCEMENT
The police operation codenamed "Dergesa" is being finalized, where a case of smuggling of goods was cracked. He was caught red-handed on the "Maqellarë-Bulqizë" road axis, transporting suspected smuggled goods from North Macedonia, the 38-year-old was arrested and his brother was declared wanted.

3 customs officers of the Bllatë BCP are being prosecuted for the criminal offense of “Abuse of duty”. The smuggled goods and 2 vehicles are being seized. In continuation of the work to prevent and crack down on criminal activities in the field of economic and financial crime, specialists from the Crime Investigation Sector at the Dibër Border Police Department, in close cooperation with the Dibër Border Police Commissariat, based on information obtained in operational channels, finalized the police operation codenamed “Dërgesa”.

On the Maqellarë-Bulqizë road, the Police services stopped the vehicle driven by citizen EH. During the inspection of the “Benz” type vehicle, a van, 762 packages of soft drinks without an accompanying invoice were found. Also, during the inspections in the premises of the apartment and in another “Volkswagen” type vehicle, 1296 packages of soft drinks and 638 boxes of food products (sauce) were found. Following the procedural actions, citizen EH, 38 years old, resident of the village of Pocest, Maqellarë, was arrested in flagrante delicto for the criminal offenses of “Smuggling of other goods” and “Trading and transporting contraband goods”, while his brother, citizen LH, was declared wanted.

Preliminary investigations suspect that the two brothers illegally imported the above-mentioned goods into the territory of the Republic of Albania, avoiding customs control and declaration procedures.

Following the actions, criminal proceedings were initiated for the offense of “Abuse of office” against citizens BC, 43 years old; Sh. K., 60 years old; and FM, 48 years old, all three of whom were customs officers at the Bllatë Border Crossing Point. The procedural materials were referred to the Prosecutor's Office at the First Instance Court of General Jurisdiction in Dibër, for further actions.
